Yesterday was a doozie of a day! I spent over four hours in my car and put 126 miles on our car too. We woke up and took big brother to OT. We drove back home, got the car washed and had lunch. Then we went to take middle brother to see the ENT. About three weeks ago middle brother’s ear started bleeding. I didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to it but made notice of it. I thought maybe he had scratched his ear so I cut his finger nails. That didn’t seem to help. He kept waking up with spots of blood on his pillow. Two weeks ago I took him in for his yearly check up and left the doctor feeling a little concerned. The doctor who is normally very laid back said that he was concerned and wanted him to see an ENT (ear, nose and throat specialist) right away. He then put middle brother on some antibiotics and made a call to the ENT for a rushed appointment. The soonest we could get in was today. Middle brother’s hearing was tested and then we waited for the ENT to come and talk to us. She informed me that his tubes that were placed in 2010 that should have fallen out have not and in fact one of the tubes in falling into the ear drum. The bleeding that we have been seeing is a cyst that has formed on the ear drum as a way of keeping the tube from invading. She said that surgery will be needed at which time his tubes will be removed and the ear drum will need to be repaired. Oh sakes alive! I left her office and called for a pre-op appointment and so next Wednesday we will go in for his pre-op and go from there. Not really what I was expecting but then again I guess that is just the name of this whole parenting game.
