I will be the first to say that I struggle with being a festive person. Don’t get me wrong I love festivities but it is a stretch for me to be festive. Since the mister and I have been married I have never gotten into the full decorating mode for Christmas. I have a desire to but when it comes to execute it I fall woefully short. I once asked the hubby if he minded that our house is not festive and he looked at me like I was asking the dumbest question in the world… and I suppose to him it was. I grew up with a very capable decorating mother, she could make a mean curtain out of a sheet, or a great Christmas wreath out of recycled items.
I was feeling inspired today after reading the book, “Tale of Three Trees” and felt like I had an idea of what I wanted to do for Christmas trees… tree small, pencil shaped artificial trees… like these ones…
However I was too late and they are all sold out and after today their price goes up a whopping $20. Sakes, a girl just can’t catch a break.
The biggest thing is that in our new home I just don’t really have a place to put a Christmas tree and truth be told whenever we cut one down from the forest we always say what a small tree it is until we get it home and it over takes the room. Another thing too is in our family’s desire to be more green we talked about getting a potted tree and then using it year to year. After a trip to Home Depot and Lowes all we could find were Norfolk pine trees and those are not very Christmas tree like.
What to do, what to do?
I don’t want to necessarily forgo the whole Christmas tree idea for the kids sake but I am not quite sure what I want and what we are going to do. Since Christmas is not about the tree of the presents I know that the day will still come and the time that is spent as a family will still be as sweet. However my little men are at an age that the spirit of the season is beginning to fill their hearts and minds and I really enjoy watching their little eyes light up as we see the lights on the homes in the neighborhood and the trees in the stores.
What do you do to decorate your home? Fake tree or real? One tree of multiple? Lights on the house or just on the tree?
