Yep, today was the beginning of Zeke’s schooling life. Actually I guess he wants to be called Ezekiel now. I didn’t think the fact that Ezekiel was starting school was effecting me until last night. I spent my “sleeping” hours tossing and turning and when I would nod off to dream world my dreams were more nightmares… I forgot his shoes, his backpack and just plain forgot him at pick up time. Sakes alive! After talking with Michael a little after drop off I realized that the biggest thing is that Ezekiel has been home with me for the last year. We spent every day together for the last year, he didn’t go to preschool so going from having such a character all day every day to the realization that he will have his own “life” was a little too much for this mommy.
So back to Ezekiel… Friday was his meet and greet. He got to see his classroom, meet his teacher and bring all his school supplies in. Saturday and Sunday mornings he would wake up and ask if it was school day yet. Last night as I was tucking him in he said that he was super excited to be a kindergartener. This morning he woke up had breakfast got dressed and then sat on the front step waving to all the neighborhood kids as they walked to the bus stop. When it was time to leave he asked if he could just ride his bike to school and then I could pick him up after. I told him that I was going to take him to school and we could talk bike riding to school when he got to be in third grade. Once we arrived at the school I literally had to chase behind him. I told him that he needed to hold my hand and he said, “I am in kindergarten I don’t need to hold your hand.” Boooo for me! Once we got to his classroom he just walked in, didn’t even say goodbye.
Once home he and I had a chance to sit down and chat about his day… His rug square is red, his favorite color. When he sits on the rug he has to sit criss cross applesauce with his spoons in the bowl (aka… legs crossed and hand in his lap). His teacher read the book “The Kissing Hand”. He really enjoyed that story and asked me to kiss the palm of his hand so that my kisses will go straight to his heart so that when he is at school he won’t miss me!All in all it seemed to be a great first day for Ezekiel!
