I can’t possibly be the only mom that goes through those grocery essentials this fast?
In a week we go through:
Two and a half gallons of milk
Twenty yogurts
Twenty four ounces of berries
A dozen apples
A loaf of bread
Granted… I do have three young, growing boys. I am not one to limit their intake of the “good” foods either. If they want more milk to drink, by all means have at it. If they want more fruit, sakes go for it. If one yogurt was not enough, there are more in the fridge.
Usually when I go to the grocery store, whether it be Safeway or Sunflower I am usually buying fruit and yogurts, regardless of my trip the day before. Thankfully Michael agrees with me that if they will eat it, I should buy it.
Just this week I signed up to have our milk delivered to us. I had tried it out before we moved back in April but with the move and crazy life I wanted to wait until we got back from vacation before I put in our standing order. So every Wednesday we will have our milk delivered to our home. I am kind of excited about that! We tried two home delivery milks and choose to go with Longmont Dairy. Their farm is about an hour from our home, the milk man delivers to our home every Wednesday. Our milk is placed on our front porch before 6:30am. The milk that is delivered to us on Wednesday was produced by the cow on Tuesday. Each one of our bottles that is delivered can be traced back to the specific farm and cow. In my opinion it does not get any closer than that… well of course we could have a cow in our back yard, but really… I am not going there!
Now if only I can get my garden to produce more fruit we would be set! This year I did plant a garden for the produce more for the fun. Next year it is my hope to have a garden that produces our fruits and vegetables in a more timely manner and in a larger quantity.
Next spring we will try the chicken thing again with probably five or six girls and then we will be in business… fresh eggs by fall and with five or six layers we should have enough for us and some to share!
So for the time being… running to the grocery store almost every day to stock back up on our fruits and veggies is just the way of life.
