My “Boy Scout” Ready Car Tour

I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I have been asked what all I keep in my car.  I honestly can say that it comes up just about once a week.  Yes, it might be because I have just about everything in there!  Last week was a prime example as to why I have everything in my car… Last Friday Zeke had soccer practice, the weather had changed from a mid seventies to a windy and chilly fifties in a matter of twenty minutes.  Some of the moms were saying, “Oh I wish I had a sweatshirt in my car” “I need a blanket!”… so on.  I promptly head to my car and start pulling out my stash.  I gave a mom a hooded sweatshirt and a blanket, another mom a wind breaker, an another mom a sweatshirt for her daughter.
So… here is what I keep in my car on a regular basis…PictureIn this bag everyone has a change of clothes, a sweatshirt, extra socks, hats

PictureIn my diaper bag… Compliments of 31 I have a change of clothes for the boys consisting of shorts, t-shirt, socks and underwear. Pull Ups (although in our house they are known as night time underwear). Diapers and wipes. Changing pad. Wet bag, for accident clothes. Sun screen. Motrin for older and younger boys. Snack pack. Care bag for mommy… which has advil, nail clippers, hair things… And then a few toys.

PictureThis is the back of my car. There is a “secret” compartment that houses my Boba carrier, two picnic blankets, and jumper cables.

First stage of loading the back of my car… First is the Safety 1st foldable high chair. Let me say that this is one of the best purchases! So many restaurants have really crappy high chairs and this is a life saver!

PictureNext goes in the clothing bag. See picture one for it’s contents.

The next bag in the back of the car is my reusable grocery bags. I keep all my reusable bags in here. These get washed every month.

Lastly the diaper bag goes in and then the cargo net.

Next to each boy’s carseat they have a Camelbak water bottle, sun glasses, a hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap.

In the side console to my driver seat I keep my first aid kit… it has just about everything needed for minor cuts and scrapes.

I also keep a book box in the car that contains, board books, cars and little toys. This box has a lid so that it can be taken out of the car for entertainment at non-kid friendly places.

The book box is kept behind the driver’s seat so that I can easily reach it and hand kids books to keep them quiet as I am driving.
Not pictured items that I keep in my car… A box of Kleenex, scissors, scotch tape, gloves for my self, and an interchangeable screwdriver (flat and philips).  As you can see there is a lot that I keep in the car.
Whenever I am without my car… like when it is in the shop I feel like I have a piece of me missing, now you understand why.
I think I have always been a pretty prepared person.  Having kids and moving to a state that has the weirdest weather ever has taken my preparedness to a whole ‘nother level.
Michael will sometimes ask me if we really need all “this stuff” in the car and I just tell him simply, “yes”.  I think after now four years of asking me he has just gotten used to it.  I will say though that it is kind of hard having all this stuff in the car because there really is not much room for say a Costco trip or a family outing with kids bikes.  Granted I can fit all the boys bikes in the back now, a seat has to be put down and the car is packed.
Maybe this is why we have begun looking at upsizing our car!  Hehehe!
