I am writing this post as a warning. Please do not judge me for my stupidity for falling into the trap of the scam. Simply take my information and be warned!
I have been admiring TOMS shoes for a while now. They are cute, simple and seem to be very comfortable. I have had my eyes on purchasing a pair or two for a while. I went to my local Whole Foods where TOMS can be purchased and tried them on. The price of them has made me leery and I have not purchased them. I understand that for each pair bought there is a pair sent to a country where shoes are a luxury and given away. I understand that the price is for that mission, I support the idea completely. Being a stay at home mom who does not spend money on myself I did not feel I could justify $45 for a pair of shoes.
Here comes the scam… during my hours of Pinterest perusing I found a website that boasted half price outlet TOMS. Over Christmas this particular website advertised buy three get one for free and free shipping. How could a penny saving mom pass up a sale like that? I placed my order on New Year’s Eve and then got an email from another company stating that they would be processing my payment. Then on January 4th I checked my bank account to find that the receipt amount for my purchase and the withdrawn amount was different as well as there was a bank charge for the charge from a Beijing company.
I did not want to let my husband know that I had spent money to purchase shoes online so I kept my mouth shut and just checked my bank account every day to verify that my account was not being drained. This weekend my frustration level hit since I have yet to receive my shoes, fearing that I had been scammed I sulked into my husband’s office and admitted what I had done. His research proved to only make me feel even more stupid. Everything he found stated that the “TOMS Outlet Online” was a scam. UGH!
So this morning I had to tuck my tail between my legs again and head to the bank and let them know what happened and then ask them to help me. My card was shredded and canceled. The payment will be returned to me provisionally while they try to fight for me.
Lesson to be learned… don’t buy from “TOMS Online Outlet”, don’t try hiding it from your husband when your gut says something is fishy, and don’t use your debit card to do it! UGH!
