Let me just set the record straight… I am a truly blessed woman. I have a wonderful husband who took off of work a few days to allow me to head out of town, he handled our three little men like a champ. I have wonderful friends and family living in Washington who dropped with daily lives to let me come and hang out. I flew into Spokane and was picked up at the airport by my second cousin’s wife. I know that sounds like a weird thing but this woman was a bright spot for me during my pregnancy and after with our last baby. We sat and chatted for hours, it was such a wonderful way to begin my trip!
After my aunt got off of work she picked me up and she and I got a chance to catch up a little and chat. Oh, I love her so much! She and I were able to remember stories of her mother, my grandmother and we laughed, cried, talked and sat in silence. It was a wonderful ride to her home, just she and I!
After a drive to my grandparents house I was greeted by my grandpa with a big ginormous hug. Grandpa’s hugs have a way of erasing the time past. The home and he and my grandma have made in the hills is such a wonderful little retreat. The mornings are quiet and the evenings are filled with talking and catching up.
I spent some time catching up with my father. For the last eleven years our relationship was very strained and during my visit he and I were able to laugh and share, it was so good for my heart! I got to sit around his dinner table with my brother and sister and enjoy the fun banter of siblings. The grin that wore permanent lines on my father’s face will stay with me for some time. The laughter and love made my heart’s cup overflow.
While there I also got a chance to catch up with a family friend, this family has been a family friend since before I was even born and a trip to the north east would not be complete without seeing them. My time spent with her was special, I got to share my heart and she too for her son that at one time had captured my heart who now lives in heaven. Our conversation was marked with tears and love and left me feeling grateful for the role her family has played in my life.
I left the north east corner feeling absolutely blessed!
