Today our yard witnessed another circle of life incident. Our little ladies were snuggled in their coop due to twenty-degree weather. I opened their coop and run so to encourage them to get out and roam the yard. I headed out for the morning while hubby was home due to weather. Around ten I got a text from hubby saying, “prepare the boys for the fact that we don’t have chickens.” I quick call informed me that the blasted neighborhood fox decided that a chicken breakfast at nine in the morning was a great menu. Thankfully hubby was home and was able to get the meal cleaned up and put out in the trash before we got home. I am thinking that our boys are in need of a fox hat! This year we were able to keep our girls almost a full ten months and we even got eggs from them, better than last year. I will admit there is a part of me that is thinking that maybe chicken farming is not for us. Hubby is thinking about traps, electric fencing and a gun. I guess that is the difference between a man and a woman… me wanting to throw in the towel and he wanting to conquer and beat the fox at his game. I am just so bummed that our girls got eaten yet again, they were some great girls.
