Just Go Play

8792240Did you ever read the book, Just Go To Bed by Mercer Mayer?  We have lately been telling about boys, “Just go play”, whenever I say it I think of that children’s book.  For some reason they have become incapable of playing on their own, they are wanting constant approval and connection from me… it is driving me bonkers.  I realize there is a time and place to play with your children, don’t get me wrong.  I am just talking about those days where I have played with them, read a book and spent some time with them and they still seek me out.  I find myself telling the boys multiple times a day and triple the times on the weekend… “Just go play!”  Can it really be that hard to go play?  Hubby today sent the boys to the back yard and said have fun!  We got snow yesterday and although the sun was shinning today it was a little chilly, however snow was melting and there was the perfect chance to send them on their way and have them build snow men and just roll around in the snow.  Our boys characters always become very evident when we send them out… big brother has a task to complete, middle brother sits and supervises and little brother usually does his own thing until big brother gets his project done and then decides to destroy it!  Yep, a vicious circle of little boy play.
