Love Affair

img_0784Those that know me, know that I have a serious love affair with Goodwill.  This is a well cultivated love affair.  Growing up I was all about Goodwill.  There was this lady that my mom worked with that was a “pro-goodwill shopper”.  She would come waltzing into the office and brag about her Anne Taylor suit for some ridiculous price and then sing song the fact that it was a Goodwill find.  This is when my relationship began.
Through out my junior and senior high school years I was all about finding the deals.  I would scour multiple Goodwills looking for the cute and in style clothes off cast by others.  There came a time where I found myself a little more ADD and did not want to spend the time searching through rack upon rack for one or two things.  Then about two years ago I realized if I wanted to have some new-to-me clothes I was going to have to devote some time to the process and back to Goodwill I headed.
I have not been disappointed!  I have found some really cute things and I usually get compliments on them and find myself being like the lady from my childhood and touting the cheap price with a little grin and smirk.
I think my best find of all times was a pair of Lucky Brand jeans for $3 with a $10 bill in the pocket.  I got paid to buy those jeans!  I am pretty sure it does not get better than that!  Out of all the years of my shopping at Goodwill the most expensive thing I bought was a pair of snow boots that I just bought for middle brother two weeks ago for $11.
I have gotten to the point now when I shop that if the item is not a name brand that I like then I don’t even consider it.  I know that seems silly but it has paid off.  I am known to purchase name brands like; Lucky Brand Jeans, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Columbia, and occasionally Carters shorts and pants for the boys.  Even with my limited brand names I never walk away from the store empty handed.
Another great thing about Goodwill is that with the prices what they are if I only wear something once or twice I feel like I can get rid of it… kind of like a clothes renting program!  Granted that is more in the case of clothes for me, clothes for the boys go from big brother down the line to little brother and then either to friends or cousins; kids clothes get their wear out of them!  Our local Goodwill also does twice a month 50% off sale the entire store and then once a month all their jeans are $.99.  So as silly as this might sound I will not buy jeans for the low prices, I will wait for the $.99 days, and I still have scored some great jeans!
Today I hit up the 50% off sale and I found a shirt for middle and little brother, a all weather jacket for little brother, a dress for myself that still had the store tags on it, two sweaters for myself, a pair of pants, a knit hat, a pair of shoes and light jacket all for $27.  Score!
If that isn’t inspiration for you to check out your local Goodwill than, frankly, I am not sure what is!  Give it a try, inexpensive clothes and think of it as a renting system… like a RedBox for clothes! 🙂
