More Smiles From Earth

PictureWhen we moved into our house the back yard was a mess.  It had been abandoned for who knows how long!  There were a few mosquito breeding zones, lots of “natural” greenery and a ton of glass (long story!).  Last year I can say that I hated our back yard.  I didn’t even want to be out there, it made me grouchy to be there because I felt like I was constantly looking for glass.  This year I can say that it is a different story!  I am actually really liking the backyard.  We have been clearing and cleaning it for the last year and now it is getting to a place where I wouldn’t be ashamed to have people over to.  There is this area that is just below the top deck that at one point had a pond in it (mosquito breeding zone when we moved in) and at one point was probably kind of nice.  Last year the hubby moved out the pond and put in a few boulders and filled in all the cracks with soil so we were not leaving snake breeding zones.  This year I planted a few flowers in it and have been really weeding and watering the area… it is becoming one of my favorite spots!  Right now the irises and columbines are in bloom and it is a bright cheery place with purples and yellows!  My back yard is smiling!
