About a month ago my dad bought a new boat, his dream boat! While I was in San Diego I wanted to see his new boat and what better way to see it then to take it out in the ocean. With warm weather in the forecast we loaded up and headed out. After saying good bye to my great grandma and the sadness of the morning I was eager to spend some time soaking up the warm sun and some salt air. About twenty minutes after her roses disappeared from our view I spotted a pilot whale, he came up twice for air and by the time we came to where he was he was long gone. After the disappointment of his disappearance I spotted a pod of dolphins. As we approached the pod many of the dolphins played around the boat and some even drafted along the bow of the boat. At one point I had my foot over the side camera in my hand and my foot graced the top of a dolphin. The moment felt like I was a child at Disney… I didn’t want the ride to end and at one point we had boated beyond the pod and my sister and I eagerly cheered for our dad to turn back around and do it again – he was game! After a time of watching the dolphins play around us my sister and I decided to plunge into the water and swim alongside them. Yes, you read that correct – we pulled the out of towner… splashing and playing the winter ocean. The first plunge was breath taking – not because of the dolphins but because of the cold water, my sister and I both struggled to catch our breath. Realizing that our entrance to the water had scared away the very creatures we were eager to swim with we jumped back aboard the boat and motored closer to the pod, our second plunge had dolphins all around us, their chattered could be heard and it was an experience that I will forever remember.
